Advancing Treatments for Neurological Injuries

Improving the quality of life for people with spinal cord injuries through pioneering research, patient resources, and translational medicine.

Bridging the Gap in Spinal Cord Injury Research

The NeuroRestore Foundation has been established to improve the lives of people suffering from spinal cord injury by providing resources to patients, health care providers, and basic researchers.

We work closely with laboratories that are translating rehabilitative strategies to the clinic, and the patients who are enrolled in these studies. We serve a critical gap in funding by complementing federal funding, such as from the National Institutes of Health, and corporate research and development from medical device companies.

Our vision is a world where neurological injuries no longer define the limits of someone's life.

Areas of Focus

We support the full spectrum of spinal cord injury research and recovery — from the laboratory bench to the patient's bedside.

Translational Research

Funding the critical gap between laboratory breakthroughs and clinical applications, accelerating promising therapies from bench to bedside for spinal cord injury patients.

Patient Resources

Providing direct support to patients enrolled in clinical studies and connecting individuals with the latest rehabilitation strategies and therapeutic opportunities.

Neuromodulation & Rehabilitation

Supporting pioneering work in spinal cord stimulation, photobiomodulation, and other neuromodulation techniques that are redefining recovery possibilities for neurological injuries.

Dr. Daniel C. Lu

MD, PhD — Professor of Neurosurgery, UCLA

Dr. Daniel Lu is a professor of neurosurgery at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and director of the school's Neuroplasticity and Repair Laboratory. With over 20 years of experience, Dr. Lu has pioneered revolutionary approaches to spinal cord injury treatment that are redefining recovery possibilities.

Born in Taiwan and a Paul & Daisy Soros Fellow, Dr. Lu earned his PhD in Neuroscience and MD from UC San Diego, followed by a neurosurgery residency at UC San Francisco. His research focuses on the molecular biology and regenerative treatment of traumatic spinal cord and brain injury.

Beyond medicine, Dr. Lu is a skilled luthier — a maker of fine violins — bringing the same precision and artistry from his surgical practice to the craft of instrument making.
